No one wants to think about dealing with an Oakville plumbers. But if you don’t at least think about it, how do you plan to handle the situation if ever happened?
Although it is very unfortunate, the reality is that most homeowners experience several types of emergency pipes – whether minor or main – at one point or the other. Knowing how to deal with emergencies quickly and effectively it can save big headaches (and bills to repair large water damage).
In the appropriate plumbing & channel pipe service, we know dealing with a sudden pipe disaster can be very stressful. We are here to help. Below, we have described some simple but effective tips to handle an emergency of household pipes.
1. Turn off the nearest water source
When the plumbing disaster attacks, find the closest water cover valve and turn off the water supply. For the sink, you must be able to identify the valve somewhere under the exhaust pipe. For toilets, the valve cover must sit on the back or at the base of your mobile.
For a large emergency, turn off the main water valve of your house as soon as possible. If you don’t know where the valve is, take the time now to find it. There has never been a bad idea to tell all household members from the location too.
2. Turn off the electrical circuit
Everyone knows water and electricity can be a deadly combo. If there is a small possibility that leaking water has come into contact with one of your electrical circuits, don’t touch the water. If you can safely reach your circuit breaker, turn off the electricity to the affected space or turn the main breaker just to be extra safe.
3. Turn off the water heater
When the emergency strike is the main pipe, it is best to turn off your water heater for safety. If you let it, heat can accumulate in the tank, which can place the unit at the risk of overheating or exploding. If you have a gas water heater, make sure to turn off the gas supply line before you turn off the unit.
4. Address of small and easily identified leakage
If you find yourself dealing with a small pipe leak, try to stop the flow of water as well as possible. Turn off the water supply to a certain pipe and do the best to hold back leaks. You can collect towels and cloth and wrap it around the pipe because it will contain water even after you turn off the water supply.
Use a towel to absorb water on the floor and place a bucket directly under a leak to catch the water that might escape. Even if you have never dealt with a previous leak, consider keeping the plumber tape, if. You can use a cassette to seal a small leak when you wait for a plumber to arrive and make permanent repairs.
5. Avoid using chemical cleaning cleaners
The truly clogged pipes may look like emergency pipes that are easily solved only with dump cleaning bottles. And while cleaners can of course burn blockages, they can also do a little damage to your plumbing system, especially if it’s old.
It’s not unusual for cleaning cleaners based on chemicals that are hard to erode the interior of the older pipe, and that damage can contribute to the problem of plumbing in the future. Instead of breaking the disposal cleaner, try using a special drain plunger. If it doesn’t remove the clogs, this is the time to call pro.
6. Open Spigote to move water from home
Even after you turn off your main water valve, there will be water in your household pipe. You will want to get rid of as much water as you can so it can’t leak into your home and cause damage.
To move water from your home, go outside and open your outdoor tap. If you have a prepared garden hose, release or give some good sprays to make sure it’s free of water.
7. Wear protective equipment
If you deal with leaks involving contaminated water (like that from your sewer system or dirty drain line), wear rubber gloves and boots if you will touch the water.
If there is water in touch with your mucous membranes, bacteria and other microorganisms can make you very sick. When the affected area is completely dry, you must really disinfect everything wet.
8. Call a plumber
When the plumbing disaster attacks, don’t lose your head. Remember to call plumber in mississauga as soon as possible, after you turn off your water supply, of course. Many homeowners are so trapped in the chaos of the situation they really forget to call professionals – don’t make that mistake!
